Iowans saw record levels of rain and flooding this spring. Watch the efforts of a group of farmers, townspeople and the national guard working against the clock and mother nature to save their homes and farms from the rapidly rising Mississippi River in Southeast Iowa, near the small town of Mediapolis.
With historic rainfall and flooding this spring in Iowa, many farmers have lost their crops and even farms. Jay Lynch, a young farmer from north central Iowa, didn't face the devastating floods near the Mississippi River in the eastern part of the state, but heavy rain kept him out of his fields for nearly 4 weeks and left many of his fields under water. He now faces replanting corn and soybeans to keep his crop loss down, and in some fields may not be able to raise a crop. Experts estimate Iowa alone suffered nearly $4 billion in crop loss as nearly 2 million acres of corn and soybeans were flooded across the state.
